Cycle to Wood

With the event running on renewable energy, the sensible option seems to be to arrive under your own steam, and cycle. Every year WOOD festival runs a cycle to wood campaign in partnership with The Oxford Cycle Workshop.

The ride sets off from The Old Oxford Cycle Workshop (Magdalen Road, Oxford) at 2pm on Friday 20th May, arriving at Braziers Park a few hours later. Don’t worry about carrying your tents, they’ll be transported separately so you can concentrate on enjoying the ride. The route takes in the beautiful Chilterns and avoids mains roads.

Those taking part will be rewarded with a love¬ly ‘half-way picnic’ in Wallingford and a cold pintupon arrival at the festival its self. You’ll have earnt it.

Here’s a review from last year’s ride: http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/yoursay/columns/8193759.Get_pedalling_to_music_festivals/

The Magnificent Revolution Stage

The Oxford Cycle workshop will then be sticking around to help power the festival, with one of the stages – the Magnificent Revolution – being powered completely by audience pedal power. They are also going to be hosting workshops throughout the weekend, teaching people how to maintain bikes.

So, what’s stopping you?

#1 I can’t carry my tent and all my stuff on my bike

Don’t worry. Just meet up at the Oxford Cycle Workshop at 2pm on Friday, May 20 and a van will be there to pick up your heavy items and take them to the festival for you!

#2 It’s too far

From Oxford to Wood at Braziers Park is 20 miles.

#3 It’s still too far

We’ll be stopping for a picnic half way round, so you can rest your legs and take in some food.

#4 That’s still too far

You can take a train from Oxford Station to Goring with your bike and then cycle from Goring to Wood. The distance from Goring to Wood is only 3.6 miles.

#5 I don’t like to cycle on busy roads

The lovely Dan from the Oxford Cycle Workshop has plotted out a really nice scenic trip from Oxford to Wood that avoids major roads. A team from Oxford Cycle Workshop will ride with the group to Wood.

#6 I don’t want a free pint when I arrive

Really? We can’t help you there. You can choose from a nice pint of Cotswold Lager or Cider, or a Real Ale from Butts Brewery, both lovely local brewers – how could you possibly say no! And, of course, there are soft drinks for the kids.

#7 What will I do with my bike during the festival?

Once there we’ve provided a safe spot to lock your bikes. There’s even a return trip on Monday so you can put your stuff in the van and cycle back.
