After the ‘indefinite hiatus’ in 2013 of popular UK alt-country outfit ahab, songwriter Steven Llewellyn went on to form his own band with the help of ahab originator Dave Burn and former bassist Graham Knight. Danny & The Champions of The World drummer Steve Brookes, having already toured heavily with ahab, quickly became a permanent member of Orphan Colours, along with Fred Abbott, lead guitarist with Noah & the Whale. The band have some impressive credentials and have just released their fantastic debut album ‘All on Red’ on At The Helm Records.

Yama Warashi, meaning small child like mountain spirit, are a Bristol based art rock ensemble fronted by Zun Zun Egui’s Yoshino Shigihara.  Inspired by Japanese folk dance, free jazz, tribal African music and heavily saturated in psychedelia.  Lyrically outlandish and charming, melodically addictive and mythical. Following up their debut long-player ‘Moon Egg’ on Stolen Body Recordings, Yama Warashi have recorded a second album with Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, M.Ward, Perfume Genius), due for release in 2018.

Fonda-500---A6-Flyer---1b Wood 2015 #6

Nick’s family performances are legendary, not least at Wood Festival, where he has played every year to ever-expanding audiences. He has a fanatical army of little and not-so–little fans from all over the world.

This year, Nick will be performing a special evening slot on the main stage with extra musicans.

"Nick Cope is the indie-surrealist kids' entertainer Robyn Hitchcock and Syd Barrett, foolishly distracted by cult status, never were.” Stewart Lee, 2016

NICK COPE & FRIENDS

O & O

We’ve known and loved Hull’s technicolour pop auteurs Fonda 500 for many years and can’t believe we haven’t asked them to play Wood before, what with many of their songs about bees and other animals. Their first album was hailed as ‘the brightest new dawn in ages’, and was followed up with a succession of albums and EPs which skirted the boundaries of multiple genres and influences. They release their seventh (yes, 7th!) album this year, “I (heart) Stereo”, and we will excuse them for calling 2018 the year of the bear (which is their own signature animal).

FONDA 500

Julie Murphy is a singer songwriter and member of Welsh folk innovators fernhill, whose art school background laid the foundation for her continuing musical explorations. Her remarkable voice, spectrally beautiful one moment and darkly rich the next, has led to collaborations with John Cale and Robert Plant. Her fourth solo album ‘Every Bird That Flies’ made the MOJO Top ten folk albums of 2016 list; her new EP 'Lips No Longer Wet with Wine', was recorded at Cyprus Well, home of the poet Charles Causley in Launceston, Cornwall. Julie has "one of the most beautiful voices in British folk music", according to Rachel Unthank.

JackieOates-MeganHenwood

Jackie Oates is a singer and fiddle player hailing from Staffordshire, now an important part of the Oxfordshire music world. Her unique treatment of English ballads and songs, and pure, haunting singing style has established her at the forefront of the new English folk revival.

Since appearing as a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards 2003, she has performed extensively at festivals and venues across the country and beyond, in a solo capacity and with her band. A founder member of Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, Jackie is now a permanent member of the folk super-group The Imagined Village as well as touring in her own right.

BENNETT WILSON POOLE

Danny Wilson (Danny And The Champions Of The World), and Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires, Saint Etienne) join forces with Tony Poole, producer extraordinaire, and King of the electric

twelve-string Rickenbacker, combining their voices, guitars, and songwriting to marvellous effect in a collection of songs that began as uplifting acoustic music and just grew into something far more wide-ranging and transcendent, providing balm, inspiration and succour for these troubled times.

77:78

“It’s like I’ve always said…” notes 77:78 co-founder Aaron Fletcher “…music is the healer.”

Discerning music lovers will know Fletcher as the co-captain of Isle of Wight psychedelic adventurers The Bees. In the seven years since their last album, with The Bees on extended shore leave, Fletcher hooked up with fellow Bee Tim Parkin to work on the music that would become 77:78’s debut record “Jellies”, out later this summer on Heavenly, and filled with good vibes, wide-eyed melodies and grooves that burrow themselves right into your bone marrow.

O&O are comprised of Colorado-native, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Obadiah Jones, and Israeli vocalist, Orian Peled. With the release of their first two singles, they have garnered the attention of Chris Country Radio, Richer Unsigned, UK Country Radio and notable Country music blogs and radio stations in the UK, Ireland and across the pond.

Their live show features the duo's distinctive, close-harmony sound with an Americana flare - Fleetwood Mac meets The Civil Wars.

TREETOP FLYERS

Treetop Flyers became a serious proposition not long after they booked a rehearsal room in Shepherds Bush for a no-pressure jam session. From then on the band’s fate as a dreamy, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young style Americana act was sealed. Every member of the band helps to pen the music. “Each and every one of us has a hand in songwriting,'' says Reid. “It’s not a Treetop Flyers

song until everyone has put in in their bit.''

Grace Petrie’s unique takes on life, love and politics, and the warmth and wit with which they are delivered, have won over an army of loyal fans across the alternative, folk, political and comedy scenes.  She has toured with Emmy the Great and Billy Bragg, supported comedians Robin Ince and Josie Long, and collaborated with some of the most respected names in folk including Leon Rosselson, Roy Bailey and Peggy Seeger.  She is also a frequent guest on BBC Radio 4’s the Now Show, has appeared on Channel 4’s Random Acts and has performed in Glastonbury’s Festival’s Leftfield several times. Her self-released album ‘Heart First Aid Kit’ received a top 10 album of 2017 placing from Mojo magazine.
