THEA GILMORE

Friday night’s headliner at Wood is one of the most talented, respected, and independently-minded singer-songwriters in the UK, Thea Gilmore. Travelling  all the way from North Oxfordshire to Braziers Park, she’s certainly one of the more local headliners we’ve had at the festival.

One of the most prolific songwriters of her generation, in the decade and a half since she did work experience at Fairport Convention’s recording studio she’s released twelve albums. Her latest, Murphy’s Heart, came out last year to rapturous reviews, and has further cemented her reputation as one of the finest songwriters of her generation. In an age where songwriters are expected to deal in vague notions, she has the ability to cut to the chase, with a smart couplet saying more than fifty foggily-written verses ever could.

In the decade that she’s been on the scene, she’s picked up her fair share of accolades and fans, including everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Neil Gaiman, and has collaborated with singers like Martha Wainwright, Joan Baez and Mike Scott, so we can’t wait to have her draw a close to the wooden, solar-powered stage on Friday night.
