Willy Mason
Saturday sees Willy Mason joining us for
the third time in our last four events! The Martha’s Vineyard song-writer is a recent favourite of ours at Truck, having played at Truck America last April; more recently, anyone who saw his packed-out set upstairs at the O2 during OX4 will know he was one of the hits of the day.
Releasing the debut “G-ma’s Basement” demo EP, he was quickly picked up by Conor Oberst’s own record label, releasing a classic debut album “Where the Humans Eat”, touring with the likes of Ben Kweller, Deathcab For Cutie, and Radiohead, and generally having the kind of career trajectory that most artists recording in their grandma’s basement could only dream of. After finishing the tour for his second album “If The Ocean Gets Rough”, he took a sabbatical.
Fast-forward to Truck America, at the end of April 2010. Nina Violet, performing at the festival, mentioned that a friend was driving her to the festival from Massacheussetts in a yellow school-bus, and would quite like to play as well. So Willy Mason came and played for us in a barn in the Catskill mountains, we fell in love anew with his deep, Johnny Cash drawl, and asked him to come to Wood!
